Volkswagen T4 Transporter Auto-Sleeper Gatcombe Motorhome Model History
Circa Sept 1999 Auto-Sleepers used the latest version of the short wheel base chassis cab T4 Transporter as the base vehicle for a totally new coachbuilt model using an advanced one piece fibreglass monocoque body. It was called the Autosleeper Gatcombe motorhome. The Autosleeper Gatcombe was available in two variants. The standard configuration featured an inward facing settee on the nearside and a dinette incorporating a forward facing seat on the offside The optional layout featured a settee on both nearside and offside. then at the rear both layouts had a shower and toilet cubicle area with fold down washbasin and cassette toilet.

As far as I know the VW Autosleeper Gatcombe was available in 1 colour.
T7T7 Grey White R902 (Grauweiß). Monocoque body was light blue / white duo-tone.
4) Volkswagen T4 Transporter Autosleeper Gatcombe Furniture Specification
The Volkswagen T4 Transporter Autosleeper Gatcombe layout consisted of:
Layout Option 1:
Rear has a forward facing seat with three point safety belt.
Layout Option 2:
Rear has a settee on each side.

A) Fully adjustable driver and passenger cab seats upholstered in same material as rear seats.
B) The rear is available in two layouts: one with a settee on both sides, the other with a settee on one side and an optional forward facing seat on the other. The forward facing seat is fitted with a three point lap and diagonal seat belt.
The seats can be converted into either two single beds or one double bed. There is also an option to have an overhead bed instead of storage lockers above the cab area.
C) Removable table
D) Wardrobe with Carver 3000S (or Carver 3600-STC or Trumatic 3002 S) thermostatically controlled space heater below.
E) Shower / toilet compartment with Thetford cassette toilet, vanity unit and drop down hand basin, ducted heating and large dressing mirror.
Shower and wash basin have hot and cold water.
Toilet compartment has a large top hinging acrylic window.
Kitchen unit consisting of:
F) Four burner Spinflo Caprice tower cooker and grill with oven below.
G) Alongside the cooker unit is the sink and drainer unit with cupboard below. Sink has fold up work top cover. Sink has mixer tap for hot and cold running water.
H) Electrolux RM 4213 three way (gas / 12 volt / 240 volt operated) refrigerator (or RM2200 or RM4217 or RM4233S) with electronic ignition system. Fridge has internal freezer compartment. Above fridge is a cocktail cabinet.
I) Overhead lockers above cab area. As an optional extra an overcab bed could be specified instead of lockers.
J) External gas storage for 2 x 7kg gas cylinders.
Other features include:
Opening roof vent / skylight for fresh air.
Stainless steel roof rack and ladder.
Full carpeting throughout.
Mains electric hook up with safety protection via RCCD circuit breaker and two MCB’s.
Zig electrical control panel with water level gauge, individual fuses for each electrical appliance, master switches for 12 volt lighting system and water pump, a 12 volt outlet socket and a light indicating when fridge is operating on 12 volts. This was mounted on the front facing wall of the rear wardrobe.
12 Volt 60 Amp/Hour second auxiliary equipment battery.
Zig X70 or CEC (Plug In Systems) battery charger.
Fresh water tank for pressurised water system with electrically pumped water tap.
Wastewater tank.
Carver Cascade 2 (or Carver Rapide or Trumatic Ultrastore)) water heater with mains hook up facility.
Carver 3000S space heater.
12 volt Truma blown air heater.
Large double glazed windows.
Cassette window blinds and flyscreens.
Fluorescent lights, reading lights and mains light.
Head rests on both cab seats.
Fire extinguisher.
Intermittent wipe and two speed wipers.
Padded steering wheel.
Two courtesy lights.
Wheel trims.
Radio cassette.
Thermally lined curtains.
Scatter cushions.
Specially selected seat fabrics with fire retardant foam.
Handcrafted edging on all cabinet work.
Tableware for four in overhead cabinet above fridge unit.
5) Options available at extra cost included:
Overhead bed above cab area in place of overhead lockers.
6) Volkswagen T4 Transporter Autosleeper Gatcombe Side Stripes and Logos
There was normally a small blue stripe on the front of the vehicle and a burgundy Gatcombe logo on the driver and passenger doors. Also there was a blue Auto-sleeper logo on the front of the roof and the rear of the monocoque body.
White and light blue duo-tone body is complimented by a high level coach line just below the windows and by a combination stripe at low waist level.
The roof had stripes at the front, rear and sides and a burgundy auto-sleeper logo on the front:
